Wetland Mitigation
Approximately 1,184 acres of wetlands are within Salt Lake City Airport property boundaries. This represents 16.6 percent of the 7,697 acres the airport owns. The airport manages approximately 450 acres of wetlands west of the airfield.
The airport worked with local environmental and regulatory groups to design and create this site to compensate for natural wetlands impacted by runway construction during the early 1990s. Typical management practices in the dedicated wetlands areas include monitoring water levels, monitoring and replacing wetland plants, as needed, controlling invasive species, removing trash and debris, and protecting the property from trespassing and hunting.
